A new dimension of sauna culture is arriving at Ikaalinen Spa & Resort – immersive sauna rituals will be introduced in July 2025.

WHAT IS AUFGUSS?
Aufguss is a guided sauna ritual that brings new depth and a multi-sensory experience to your time in the sauna. During the session, a trained sauna master pours water infused with essential oils onto the stones and uses hand movements or a towel to circulate the steam – creating rhythmic waves of heat and strong sensory impressions.
Aufguss is also a recognised international competition discipline.
In world championships such as Aufguss-WM, masters perform choreographed rituals that combine heat, storytelling, music, and visual themes. It has become a celebrated part of sauna culture and wellness tourism around the world.
Aufguss Academy
In addition to Aufguss, saunas can host a range of traditional and health-enhancing rituals. Herbal steam, salt sauna sessions, honey treatments and whisking are all practices that promote holistic wellbeing – relaxing the body, purifying the skin, opening the airways and improving circulation. These treatments combine natural ingredients with the soothing heat of the sauna in perfect balance.
Ikaalinen Spa will open the Aufguss Academy in autumn 2025. Its mission is to train and inspire individuals interested in the Aufguss culture. Through the Academy, we’re searching for new talents to become the next generation of sauna masters!

Ikaalinen Spa & Resort is launching its new immersive Sauna World UTU this July – and we’re looking for creative, expressive, and confident performers to join this unique concept as sauna masters.
What is a sauna master?
A sauna master is a creator of atmosphere, a performer, and a wellbeing ambassador. In your role, you'll lead Aufguss rituals – blending heat, scent, music and movement to create unforgettable moments for our guests.
You might be the one we’re looking for if:
- You're confident in front of an audience and enjoy performing.
- You’re passionate about wellness, sauna culture and personal growth.
- Your background could be in sports, dance, theatre or coaching.
- You're ready to train through the Aufguss Academy and dive into the international sauna scene.

- Part-time work, primarily on weekends to start – with the potential to grow into a full-time role as the concept develops.

The mood of the sauna shifts with nature – your mind unwinds and your body refreshes in the authentic harmony of the seasons. This is more than a sauna – it’s a sensory nature experience that deepens your connection to the world around you and creates a one-of-a-kind place to relax all year round.
Aufguss is a guided sauna ceremony. A sauna master pours water mixed with essential oils onto the stones, then uses a towel or fan to circulate the fragrant steam with skill and rhythm. The ceremony blends heat, scent, music and social presence into a truly revitalising experience. Each session lasts around 10–15 minutes. Listen to your body – you’re welcome to leave at any time.
